As I look back on 2021 I feel so proud of the strides I’ve made with my health. Annual wellness exam? Check! Eye exam? Check! Vaxxed? (including a tetanus booster) Regular exercise? No cavities? Check! Check! Check! Mental health? ……wait what? I knew I was forgetting something.

Did you know that globally 1 in 10 people live with a mental health disorder? So why is it that we focus so much on physical health and are reluctant to even discuss mental health or our feelings? I mean, how can we be fully “healthy” if we keep our body and minds separate? Well, I’m ready to make a change and hopefully inspire you to do the same.

As a person with ADHD and anxiety, I have always had a hard time connecting with my feelings and relaxing. But there are two activities that have always helped me center; journaling and hand sewing. So how cool would it be to combine both of those activities into one? And because my brain requires deadlines to get anything done, why not make it a challenge? So with that, the #sewyourfeelings challenge is born. Woohoo!

Starting January 1st, I’ll be sewing my feelings on my daily journal and hope you’ll be inspired to do the same.

What is the #sewyourfeelings challenge? Spend a few minutes every day (however long you need) hand sewing something that reminds you of your day on a “journal” of your choice and then share with the community using the #sewyourfeelings hashtag. For example, you can use an embroidery hoop with each month clearly defined or in my case, a denim jacket that I will auction at the end of 2022 for mental health charities.

Do I need to be good at sewing? NO! This is about spending time with yourself reflecting and not about being perfect.

When can I start? The official start date is 01/01/2022 but feel free to start when you are ready.

What if I want to participate but don’t know where to start? I’ll be posting tutorials and ideas often on the blog to keep us all inspired but remember, this is about you, not about impressing others.

What hashtag should I use if I want to share online? The official hashtag is #sewyourfeelingschallenge on Instagram and TikTok.

Can I invite others to join? YES! The more the merrier!

I’m so excited to start this journey with all of you and can’t wait to see what a difference it will make. Who's ready to sew their feelings?
